III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion o} observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the GEC mine conducted by Jim Stark of CDMG. The
bond for this site has been forfeited and reclamation was completed by DMG. The
weather was warm and sunny and the ground was dry.
The East and West Pit areas were well vegetated and in overall good condition. The
vegetation was still turning green but not growing very well due to a very dry winter
and spring. The growth, however, looked like that in the surrounding, undisturbed
areas. There was currently no grazing at the East and West Pits. The riprap that was
placed in the large gullies and upper portion of the East Pit drainage appeared to
be stable at this time. There does not appear to be any new erosion problems in
either of these areas. The road that leads into the mine site has some minor ruts but is
in overall good condition.
Chen's Hill was also well vegetated and in overall good condition. The vegetation at
this site was also beginning to turn green but not really growing, like that in the East
and West Pit areas. There is some gullying on the North side of Chen's Hill but these
gullies do not appear to be getting any deeper.
The Duck Pond, Orphan's Pit and Tipple Areas were also well vegetated and in good
condition. There was also little new growth at this area at the time of the inspection
due to the dry weather.
Overall the entire mine site is in good condition.
