III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a ~ inspection of the North Thompson Creek Mine conducted by Harry Ranney of
DMG. No company representative was present during the inspection. The North Thompson Creek
Mine is in reclamation only status. W Bather conditions on site were cloudy and warm.
Roads The road leading into the North Thompson Creek Mine wasin satisfactory condition with little
signs of erosion. The gate at the mine entrance was locked.
Hydrologic Balance Mine water was entering the Long Pond from Mine #1 and Mine #3. Water
was entering the pond at presumably the normal discharge rate and discharging at a slightly slower
rate, about 1/3 CFS. Water appears to have been effectively treated although no sample was taken.
The refuse sediment pond contained some water but was not discharging. All pond embankments
were well vegetated and stable. Spillways were also in good repair. The permanent diversion ditches
were heavily armored with rip rap and no problems were noted. All culverts and temporary ditches
were in good repair.
General Mine Compliance: The site shows signs of recent work, presumably at the portals and the
ditches leading from the upper portal. The lower portals'door was ajar and could not be closed or
locked. This might need fixing as to prevent unauthorized access.
Reclamation Success: The site is erosionally stable for most areas with the predominant species
being vetches and fortis which are doing exceptionally well.
