i

INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
FILE N0. M-83-141
DATE: September 19, 198fi
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:

1. We had not planned to inspect this site, so no contact was made prior to
the inspection. We will contact the operator prior to our next
inspection.
2. There was no activity at the upper mill area; however, work was in
progress at the crusher located downhill,
3. Tailings pond construction is progressing. The sand layer and liner
anchor trenches are in place. Some erosion has occurred along the sand
surface/liner foundation. The drainage trench has been cut. No liner
placement yet.
4. A large slash pile exists near the tailings pond.
5, Erosion is occurring at the following locations:
a. Along the pathway located at the south end of the (drainage trench
end) tailings pond. Runoff passes from the mill bench, along this
corridor and then along the old road located just below the tailings
dams. Erosion and sedimentation is occurring here.
b. Along the road that runs from the upper mill area to the lower mine
area. Some gullies have developed, that are cutting from the road berm,
downslope. One is developing near the draining portal.
6. Some slight seepage is occurring from the bulkhead/portal area.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Please update the Division as to your development schedule and with
regard to the various pending stipulations and certifications.
2. Erosion problems noted in observation number 5 should be mitigated via
grading and vegetation procedures.
3. The slash pile should be reduced as discussed, and as time and county
regulations (for burning) permit.
4. IJe will probably conduct a more detailed review of your site, either
later this fall or early next spring. We will contact you prior to that
inspection. Thank you for your cooperation.
/tmb
Doc. No. 4086E
