- • (Page 3) •
MINE ID !f OR PROSPECTING ID rK -79-1
INSPECTION DATE 12/11/ 6 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ~
OBSERVATIONS
Delta County was hauling stockpiled materials from the pit today for a road project near Hotchkiss. No mining
or processing was occurring at the time of the inspection. A number of large materials stockpiles are located
on the pit floor.
The operation appears to he set up so that extraction could continue toward either the north or the east. The
mined hackwall is being extracted at a slope of about 3H:ly or 2.SH:1V, which greatly facilitates reclamation
and provides fur a much safer mining condition. Topsoil is tieing salvaged for reclamation use well in advance
of mining. The topsoil is being stockpiled adjacent to the highway, effectively acting as a visual harrier to the
pit. The topsoil stockpile is fairly well vegetated, and appears stable. No significant erosion of the pile was
observed.
The pit flour is quite flat, which will facilitate the post mining land user of irrigated pasture. The flatness of
the floor also acts to trap water within the pit, thus minimizing the potential of runoff to adjacent areas. The
location of the hatch plant pad was observed. The area appears to he well maintained. Processing waters are
contained by adjacent lined ponds.
The north west corner of the hackwall appears to have been reclaimed during the past few years. This
approximately 1/2 acre slope was estimated to he 3H:1V. Topsoil has been evenly distributed over the slope.
This area blends well with adjacent properties to the west. Only one reclamation species (a Brome) was
observed.
This operation appears to he at the 9.9 acre limit imposed upon 110 Limited Impact Permits. In order for
mining operations to continue, it will he necessary to rnnvert this operation to a 112 Permit. During post
inspection discussions, Delta County indicated that they had just completed the 112 conversion application
package, and were prepared to submit the conversion application by mid-January, 1997.
I & E Contact Address
NAME John Tamhrasa
OPERATOR Delta County
STREET 501 Palmer
CITY/STATE/ZIP Delta, Colo. 81416
cc: Steve Shuey, DMG
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
^ OTHER
