III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the GEC Mine conducted by Sandy Brown and Susan
Burgmaier of DMG. The bond for this site has been forfeited, and reclamation was
completed DMG. Weather conditions were clear and dry, and ground conditions were
dry. The inspection was conducted by vehicle.
The East Mine area erosion appeared to have accelerated over the summer months. The
operator of the nearby Southfield Mine reported a number of heavy rains throughout the
summer, and their impact at the GEC site was apparent. Vegetative cover between
gullies is good, and appears to be fairly diverse. Vegetative cover in the Section 24 areas
is good, with no signs of excessive erosion. One exception is the existing gully in the
main channel of the Orphan Pit, which is not yet stabilized.
