crossing. Improvements to drainage system in the pit area were noted. A ditch <br />west of the large topsoil stockpile in the pond 8 watershed was also noted. <br />Support Facilities <br />The Service area and the office area were visited. Both areas appeared well <br />maintained. Straw bales were noted at the service area at the southeast end as <br />approved in the permit for this SAE. Many pieces of mining equipment were noted <br />parked at the coal loadout. The area appeared idle at the time of the inspection. <br />Excess Spoil <br />Fill 7 and fill 9 were traversed on foot. The lower benches are complete on these <br />two fills. Drainage improvements at the intersections of the terraces and the <br />downdrains were noted. Both of the reseeded portions of the fills are showing <br />good growth of grasses. Mulch is still present following reported high winds the <br />previous week. No sign of slumps, slides, damage, springs, or seeps was observed. <br />Overall the site appeared in a well-maintained condition during the temporary <br />shutdown of coal mining operations. <br />4 <br />
