~~_
..

INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
FILE N0. M-83-140
DATE: May 9, 1986
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
1. Site has been recently mined. Fresh scars are present on rock faces and
crushed and loose uncrushed dolomite material is piled on the lower
level area.
2. No crushing equipment is on site. Present are a road grader, two front
end loaders, and a dump truck. Aweigh station, scale house, and
equipment storage area are located southwest of and adjacent to the
permit boundary.
3. Mr. Clint Williams informed me that hauling of stockpiled crushed rock
will begin in the near future.
4. The cedar area has been stripped of most vegetation. No topsoil or fine
materials have been stockpiled.
5. Don Rapp has informed me that a new 112 application is forthcoming which
will include a total of 38 acres and the scale and scale house area now
being used.
6. No environmental or safety hazards are apparent. The activity worked
rock face contains loose but temporarily stable rock. No impact was
noted to the intermittent stream bed west of the permit boundary.'
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. The operator should attempt to salvage and protect fines which are
generated during crushing and blastings. These fines will facilitate
reclamation efforts upon completion of mining:
2. If the cedar area is mined, any topsoil or fines present should be
salvaged and stockpiled in the northwest corner of the site. This
topsoil should additionally be seeded with blue grams and sand dropseed
to protect it from wind and water erosion.
/tmb
0243E
