(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1977-407
INSPECTION DATE 9/25/07 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS WHE
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the Division's routine monitoring of permitted sites. The Cedar
Creek Pit is permitted for 93 total acres, 65.5 acres affected lands, with on-site processing to include
crushing, screening and hatching of asphalt products. Affected lands will be reclaimed to support
Rangeland post-mining land use. Mining and reclamation activities appeared dormant during the
inspection.
According to the mining and reclamation plan, the operation will remove a portion of ridge line which is
capped with a glacial alluvial deposit. The deposit is unique to this specific location within the county and
ranges from 80 feet to approximately 250 feet in depth. The reclaimed ridge line will exhibit 3H:1V
slopes at the southwest and northeast sides of the permit area and daylight along the southeast and
northwest sides of the permit area. A visual screening berm approximately 10 feet high will be
constructed along the southeast and northwest sides of the pit. Topsoil will be replaced at three to seven
inch depth and seeded with Galleta Grass, Western Wheatgrass, and Yellow Sweet Clover.
Evidence of a previous and un-permitted mining extraction of the glacial deposit was observed on the
ridge line immediately beyond the southwest boundary of the permit area. The un-reclaimed mine had
left near vertical highwalls approximately 25 feet high and potentially dangerous to humans, livestock and
wildlife.
Permitted mining activities appear to be progressing through Phase 1 in accordance with the descriptions
provided in the application for CN-01. The site appeared stable and well managed. No problems or
possible violations were observed.
Response to this report should be directed to the Division's office in Durango at 701 Camino del Rio,
Room 125, Durango, CO 81301, to the attention of Wally Erickson, phone 970-247-5469.
I & E Contact Address cc: Tony Waldron, DRMS
NAME
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
Brian Wilson
Montrose County
P.O.
