INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
FILE N0. M-73-021
DATE: October 17, 1986

OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
1. The staff appreciates the time taken by Paul Gesso during the inspection.
2. The erosion gully near the scale house has been stabilized. A culvert
was placed at the previous gully site, and the area was backfilled and
revegetated.
3. Reclaimed bench areas have been backfilled with reject materials to
approximately 1:1 slopes. Topsoil is mixed with organic fertilizer
prior to placement on the backfill material. The operator is planting a
mixture of grasses, shrubs, and evergreens. A drip irrigation system is
applied for three years after planting. The success of reclamation in
these areas is excellent.
4. Lower remaining highwalls have been blasted and backfilled such that
they appear relatively natural. The operator is experimenting with a
rock surface oxidant which enhances natural weathering processes,
5. No environmental problems appear to exist at the site at the present
time.
6. The operator is encouraged to continue the good reclamation at this
quarry.
/bdc
4872E
