• (Page 2)
MINE ID #'OR PROSPECTING ID # M-77-208
INSPECTION DATE 6/12/98 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS S;~K
OBSERVATIONS
The following observations were made as part of a complaint-investigation inspection of this
112 gravel pit. A letter complaining of dust control problems was sent to the Division, and
it was decided that a check-up inspection was in order.
1. A copy of the CDPHE-approved dust control plan was given to the inspector upon arrival.
This plan included wetting down of the soils, shale cover, and plugging of dirt on a regular
basis.
2. All three dust control measures were being implemented at the time of the inspection. Due
to the geography of the site, occasional dust storms will continue to stir up fines on the
site at irregular intervals; however, all reasonable measures are being taken to reduce these
occurences. The full spray system will be in place by the end of the month (as was specified
in the plan), and at the time of the inspection at least 2/3 of the system was already in
place. Photos of the site are taken on a regular basis to record dust levels at different
times of day over a continuous period of time.
DMG is satisfied that Southdown Inc. is monitoring the problem on a regular basis and
coordinating with the correct agency (CDPHE) to reduce incidences as far as possible, and
making every effort to comply with C.R.S. 34-32.5-116(7)(j) to prevent and protect spoil
piles from erosion and contributing to air and water pollution.
I & E Contact Address
NAME John Lohr
OPERATORyouuthdown Inc.
STREET P.O.
