III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology. This site is temporarily inactive due to the shutdown of the sister operation
Lorencito Canyon, #C-96-084. The weather was hot and the ground was dry. All areas
were accessible by foot or vehicle.
Roads
Mine road surfaces south of Highway 12 were slightly rough in places due to rutting during
wet conditions in the spring but generally were much improved over conditions earlier this
year. When equipment is on-site this field season, road surfaces and ditches site-wide
should be reshaped to ensure future function.
Hvdroloaic Balance
Pond 7 held a small amount of water but was well below the lowest hole on the primary riser.
The sediment marker was found partially buried in the sediment delta at the pond inlet. The
marker was restored to a vertical position but may not be accurate regarding marked
elevations relative to the primary riser. The pond 7 outlet gate was found closed. The weir
box at the outlet should be cleaned of debris and vegetation. The West Mine containments
were dry. The three containments near the refuse conveyor were also noted as dry.
Subsidence
The fence remains down at the West Mine subsidence feature. Please repair this fence as
soon as possible.
Overall, the site appeared in good condition for the early summer season
