III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection of the GEC Mine. The photographs were taken by Harry
Ranney of CDMG. The bond for this site has been forfeited and reclamation was
completed by DMG. The report was written by Jim Stark of CDMG. The weather
appeared to be clear and dry.
Both the East and West Pit areas appear to be well vegetated and stable. The
vegetation seems to be very brown due to a very dry winter and spring (although it
looks no worse than that around it). The drainage that runs through the East pit also
appears to be stable from the photographs. The riprap that was placed in the top of
the drainage and in two gullies below the road is still in place and appears to be
stable as well. The road that runs along the East pit also appears to be stable.
Chen's Hill glso appears to be well vegetated and stable (although brown as well).
There appear to be a good number (25-50) of trees growing on the top of the hill.
There is some gullying on Chen's Hill but it looks no worse than the aerial photographs
taken in February 2002,
Overall, from the photographs, the area looks like it is in good condition.
No photographs of the Duck Pond, Orphan Pit or tipple Areas were taken.
