Na ~`,ret~..•rw.,.m g ~,,, ww,.
Doc. Date (if no d~t~~ amp): ~T
As requested, I have completed an initial review of the alluvial aquifer conditions surrounding
the Platte Valley Pit. In particular, I tried to determine to what extent, if any, the dewatering
operations at the site may have upon water level declines in area irrigation and domestic wells.
The information used to complete this review was primarily based upon currently available
resources such as the USGS or State Engineer's Office records. Additional information, such as
well water level information, that might become available later on may require that we revisit the
conclusions arrived at in this preliminary investigation.
GENERAL
The Division of Minerals and Geology issued the mining petniit for the Platte Valley Pit to C&M
Companies on July 16, 1993 under permit number M-89-120; Aggregate Industries -WCR, Inc.
has since acquired this site. The substitute supply p1a13 for the Platte Valley Pit was approved by
the State Engineer's Office on August 10, 2000 and was subsequently amended by Applegate
Group, Geo. on February 12, 2001 to reflect a change from wet to dry mining techniques and to
include this site in Aggregate's Combined South Platte River Replacement Plan (Combined
Plan). The State issued its original approval of the Combined Plan, which included the Platte
Valley Pit, on October 31, 2001; a subsequent approval was issued on November 19, 2001.
SITE LOCATION
The Platte Valley Pit is located in Sections 30 and 31, Township 1 North, Range 66 West in
Weld County. The site is located north of Brighton and west of Highway 85. The Platte Valley
Pit is being mined in the alluvium of the South Platte River. Dry mining techniques are currently
being used at the site to extract material below the ground water table. Ground water inflows
into the mined area have been collected and returned back to the South Platte River via pomp
and pipelines. More recently, water has been discharged into a ski lake just east of HWY 85. A
vicinity map, Figure-1, is included for reference.
149`1 'Nest 170°' A~ierwe;, 9ntr~ 2Ull 6441 Hoeing Drive, Suite 200
Dnnvei, ~„>Iemde °093-1-7128 -wpm appic-9tel9group ~.an Loveland, Colorado 8063&6655
(":03i -~'~-`~>'i11 • Fa'.
