The CM-25 Mine is located approximately 2 miles
southwest of the Uravan Mining Complex, just west of the DOE waste depository site. Mr. Glen Williams, the operators
representative, was present for the inspection.
The CM-25 Mine is now in the full reclamation phase. All equipment, structures, and mining materials have been cleared from
the site. The structures specifically mentioned in the bond recalculation from 1999 are all now removed or buried. Also the .
portal has been backfilled-and the vent hole plugged and covered.
The mine waste piles have been re-contoured to reduce the slope length as much as possible. Slopes are 2H:1V which is
adequate under the approved permit. A diversion swale has been installed just below the crest of the pile to divert run-off to the
south. This was done to reduce run-off impact on the DOE repository just below the mine.
Roads leading into the mine site and to the vent hole have been ripped and contoured to reduce or eliminate vehicular traffic as
much as possible.
Some volunteer vegetation was noted. Rice grass, needle and thread and some brome were observed. Rabbit brush, four
wing salt brush and a few unidentified species were also noted. The density of the vegetation is low, but this is all volunteer
and bodes well for the seed planted by the operator.
No erosion or sedimentation issues were noted. It appears that the storm water control measures have worked to the extent
precipitation has impacted the site, which is nominal.
The Financial Warranty held by the Division is $100.00 and DOE holds the bulk at $18,000.00. Costs were re-estimated in
1999 to be around $11,610.00. DOE has supplied documentation of acceptance of the site work. DOE is requiring Cotterto
hold a $4000.00 dollar bond with them as a performance bond. Staff will recalculate the bond to reflect the costs for a second
seeding project. If this is less than the $4000.00 required by DOE, the Division will maintain the $100.00 as required under
Rule 4.2.1(8). However, if the recalculation comes to more than $4,100.00, Cotter will be required to post the bond difference
with either DOE or DMG.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3r° Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address
NAME
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
Glen Williams
Cotter Corporation
P.O.
