Coal <br />Gary Frig DSMRE #44 <br />F'AGE 1 <br />Conditions at the Mine during the inspection: clear and warm with nc, <br />evidence of precipitation within the last ~4 lir_~urs <br />GENEFAL COMMENTS <br />This was a complete c,~ersight inspection. The State was notified <br />about my schedule and was able send one of their senior reclamation <br />specialists to meet me at the mine t4 conduct a j~!int inspection. <br />There has been some turnover in the MLFD and staff have been <br />reassigned tr_. different mines so Mr. Mathews was not up to speed ~~n <br />the current status of things aping on at the mine. <br />The mine was being worked during the inspection. The eil-~aust fan <br />and diesel generator on the upper mine bench were running. TI-rr ee <br />people were under around doing deadhead wor{: according tr. Mr. Weaver. <br />Coal was being brought out of the mine during the inspe~=tion and it <br />was ~=rushed, sized and stc~c{;piled. <br />Mr. Weaver was asked if they were hauling coal to Gunnison ar~d <br />stn~=l:piling it at their lc,adc~ut. He said that they were nr,t doing <br />that anymore but instead relied on to people come to the mine for <br />their ~=oa1. There is n~~ reference to a lgadr~llt fa,=ility in Gunnison <br />in the mime plan, the Status of the facility needs to be verified <br />during a future OSMRE oversight inspection, I did not Have time to <br />field chec{; the site. To the best of my {?nowledge, I don't thin{: OSM <br />leas been to the site or was aware of it, nor is there a reference to <br />it in our office files. <br />The diversions around the perimeter of the mine bench for nc~n- <br />disturbed area water as well the cores for the internal ditch system <br />were inspected. No problems were noted. The diversion below the <br />l~~wer bench that directs flow frc,m that area into, the sedirt~ent p~~nd <br />was recently cleaned. All culverts for surface drainage control on <br />the mine were clear. <br />The sediment pond spillways are functioning per design. below the <br />outlet end of the primary spillway in the drain channel there is a <br />yellow bellied marmot burrowing near tl~e outfall. Mr. Weaver was <br />told to {:eep the sail frr,m the burrrws away from the outlet. <br />The emergency spillway for this sediment pond has a concrete weir <br />near the head of the drain which is starting to deteriorate, some ~sf <br />
