We appreciate the general comments noted in Section I of your
report and caould make the following responses to certain points issued
in that report.
1. Dorchester personnel have resealed all points of potential
entry into the Anchor mine. The conveyor opening has been
closed with welded iron bars and all other openings strengthened
with additional welding. This work was completed on May 25, 1985.
2. 3ased upon the description given in your general comments section,
it appears that the sediment control system is working as designed.
Drainage from the lower Anchor bench is directed to a drainage
channel and conveyed to the nearby sediment pond. The pond has
substantial capacity and is designed as one of two ponds which
collect all runoff from the entire disturbed area. There has
never been a discharge from either pond. In such a system, coal
fines will be naturally deposited in such channels leading to the
ponds. However, upon final reclamation and re-establishment of
the pre mining drainage patterns, these fines will be removed
prior to removal of the sediment ponds.
Given these circimtstances, we believe that intermediate sediment control
measures (filter and bern1) recommended in your report are not necessary.
Dorchester personnel will inspect the site to ensure that the syst~n is
operating properly and that undisturbed ground is not being impacted by
coal fines.
2410 Lincoln Center • 1660 Lincoln Street • Denver.
