This partial inspection of the Arness McGriffen Mine was conducted by DRMS staff from the Durango
Field Office, 701 Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango, CO 81301, phone [phone]. The permit
for the Arness McGriffen Mine was revoked and bond forfeited in May 1989. The $13,750 financial
warranty was utilized for final reclamation.
Access to the site and to nearby state lands is controlled by the.Colorado Division of Wildlife, by
locked gate across the access road. Vehicle tracks indicate that a substantial number of vehicles
have driven around the gate. Recreational vehicles have also cut switchbacks and driven in areas
adjacent to the road sufficient to disrupt the drainage pattern of the road. During the time of this
inspection, the gate was open. However, the road was sufficiently rutted and muddy to deny access to
the standard 4-wheel drive vehicle driven by the inspector.
