The wells had been uncapped in order to prevent accumulation
of gas. The gas may be originating from coal seams in the area, or may be
related to oil and gas drilling activity immediately upstream in Mann Draw.
Samples were drawn from the wells and submitted for analysis. The operator
and the Division are awaiting results.
Ponds A and B were discharging. Samples had been taken from both. The
primary discharge culvert from Pond A has a tear at the junction with the
light use road allowing road runoff to mix with pond discharge. This should
be repaired so as not to contaminate pond discharge samples.
The stand pipe in Pond B has a seepage leak at the seam below the dewatering
hole. This should be repaired as soon as the pond level declines.
Mann Draw was noted to be flowing during the inspection.
