III. Comments/Compliance
This was a complete inspection conducted by Jim Burnell of CDMG on the afternoon of
Wednesday, January 8, 2003. This site was quiet and deserted. The weather was cold and
sunny.
At the East Mine, the area below the road that was amended last year, vegetation was
brown and largely obscured with about 8 inches of crusty snow. There was no evidence of
erosion at the bottom of the slope.
The road ditches were filled with snow. The road itself was in good condition, with some icy
spots and some rockfall. The area above the road showed no evidence of instability or
erosion. It also had some snow cover, although its aspect had allowed some of the snow to
melt.
At the Middle Mine, there is good vegetation both above and below the road, although it is
dormant for the year. There were no signs of erosion or instability that haven't been there
before. Most of the snow was gone from this area.
At the West Mine, the vegetation is excellent, with thick grasses and numerous shrubs.
The pond was filled with snow. Pond embankments were stable. The remnants of straw
bales remain on the top of the bank by the river, but there was no evidence of siltation
escaping from the site.
