(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1980-251
INSPECTION DATE: April 19, 2001
OBSERVATIONS

INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: AIW
This was a normal monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Robert Vance of Park County Road
and Bridge. The Ansley No. 2 Pit is located approximately 3 miles southeast of Fairplay, Colorado and adjacent to and just
northeast of Highway 9. The area is typical of the South Park high valley grasslands formed over glacial or alluvial outwash
gravels.
The operator has clearly marked the permit area and there was a mine identification sign present at the entrance to the site.
The pit has been mined to a depth of approximately 10-12 feet but is no longer in production since the adjacent Ansley # 2 Pit
opened. As a result, the operator has dabbling with reclaiming this site by sloping the pits to 3H:1 V or flatter and replacing
topsoil on some areas. No planned seeding has occurred, however, some areas have naturally revegetated. One problem
with this site is that mining occurred to a depth that exposed groundwater and most of the pi[ bottom is under standing water.
The operator has been backfilling this pit bottom with excess material when it becomes available but there is still a sizeable
area that remains open. The original permit indicated that mining would not be conducted below the static groundwater level.
Obviously this did occur and the permit file does not indicate that any filing was made with the State Engineer's Office for a
well permit or a substitute supply plan. Therefore, this is being cited as a problem on page three of this report along with
appropriate corrective actions.
cc: Jim Stevens-DMG
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Robert Vance
OPERATOR: Park Countv Road and Bride
STREET: P.O.
