III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion.of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DMG. No one represented the
operator during the field inspection. There was no activity on site.
Roads
The paved entrance road was in good condition. There was a small amount of debris on the road but
not enough to hamper access to the mine site. The cable was strung up across the top of the road. The
bridge at the bottom of the hill was intact. The entrance gate was closed and latched but not locked.
Facilities
The two doors on the office building were open but no problems were observed.
Hydroloev
The water level in the sediment pond was about 2 to 3 feet below the Ievet of the primary discharge
tube invert. The gated valve was closed. Pond inslopes and outslopes were well vegetated and stable.
Spillways were functional. The Edwards Mine portal spring water treatment pond continues to
discharge at about 20 to 30 gallons per minute. The discharge is still dark orange in color, which has
been shown to be in compliance with water quality standards.
The collection ditch leading to the sediment pond was well vegetated and had sufficient capacity. The
berm next to the river was functional. No problems were observed with the two alluvial wells.
Sys and Markers
The mine ID sign was up at the top of the hill and contained the correct information. Surface
disturbance markers were up along the perimeter of the mine site. ,
c:/word/bear3/inspi 104
