Jones:
In response to recent discussions between you and the Division concerning corrective actions
listed in the Division's October 21, 1997 inspection reports for the Section 16 Sand & Gravel Pit
and the Lightweight Aggregate Mine & Plant, I have listed below a clarification of the requested
corrective actions. It is the Division's position that these corrective actions are necessary to
ensure that the permitted sites are in compliance with Rule 3.1.10(6) of the Construction Material
Rules & Regulations. I have attached a copy of Rule 3.1.10(6) for your review.
CORItECT[VE ACTIONS
Western Aggregates, Inc. will submit an application for a technical revision for each permitted
site by December 31, 1997 which consists of a weed management plan for diffuse knapweed and
any other prohibited noxious weed species present at the Section l6 Sand & Gravel Pit and the
Lightweight Aggregate Plant & Mine. The weed management plan(s) will include a list of
control methods to be implemented, a schedule for implementation of the control methods, and a
monitoring program for evaluating the success of control methods used. Westem Aggregates,
Inc. will make a reasonable attempt to implement control measures, such as chemical or
mechanical control, at each permitted site during the 1998 field season to facilitate the control of
diffuse knapweed and any other noxious weeds present. Westem Aggregate, Inc. will submit a
description of weed control methods that were applied at each permitted site during the 1998
field season in the Annual Report(s) for 1998.
