County representative Marvin Moore was present during this ~nspectron The pit
is located near the Juniper Hot Spnngs, approximately'/.mile southwest of the intersection of County Roads 55 and 17, and
currently consists of approximately 83 acres. Approximately 33 acres of the BLM !and have been reclaimed or remain
untouched, and approximately 50 acres (Kennecolt-owned portion of the site) are currently considered the active portion of the
site. However, only about 10 acres (of those 50) have been disturbed within the active area.
The operator ~s asking for release (acreage reduction) of the 33 acre BLM-owned portion of this site. Observations during this
inspection for this portion of the site include:
All slopes al 3h 1 v or Less sleep
• Vegetation appears to be welbeslablished and comparable to nearby native areas -with some volunteer speaes
encroaching
• No erosion was observed
• The archeologically sensitive area at the northernmost portion of the permd area has remained untouched al the
request of the BLM,
• See photos 1-4
The inspector understands (through information provided by the county representative during the inspection) that BLM
approvos of the Division's deas~on based on the findings of this inspection,
Mine entrance signs and permit boundary markers are all in place. All act, vities and completed work at the time of inspection
appeared to follow the gwdehnes and regulations set forth by the slate and in the mining and reclamation plans (or the pit and
no problems are noted for this site. For future reference, this site Is correctly positioned in the DMG online GIS.
The Kennecott portion of the sde is active, with disturbance contained to approximately 10 of the 50 acres permitted. A
sufficient amount of topsoil has been stockpiled onsrte and has been clearly marked and vegetated (see photos 5-7). Amaterial
stockpile exists on site (see photo 6) to the north of Iho pit area (see photo 5). The only item of minor concern on the permit
area is that a small pool (approwmately 5 feet by 8 feet and less than 6 ruches deep) of water had collected at the northwestern
corner of the pd area (see photo 8). Il is Ihis inspector's belie) that this water collected as a result of a strony storm the previous
mghl and would not be held on site longer than 72 hours.
As a result of the findings above, d rs the determination of DMG that the 33-acre reduction request Is approved for Moffat
County Permit Number M• 1980.239. Notice of this determinafion will be sent under separate cover.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Deb E. Gbnima at the Division of Minerals and Geology.
