(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1987-151
INSPECTION DATE 9/25/07 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS WHE
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the Division's routine monitoring of permitted sites. The
Soderquist Pit is approved for 9.0 acres affected land with on-site processing to include crushing,
screening and batching of asphalt products. Affected lands will be reclaimed to support Rangeland post-
mining land use. Two photos accompany this report.
Trucks were being loaded from a 10,000 cubic yard stockpile of processed material. The loaded trucks
were departing the site for various locations within the county. Most of the mineable material appears to
have been extracted from the existing pit area. Minor amounts of unprocessed material appeared
available for extraction and processing at the south end of the permit area. The Operator discussed
various options for expansion of the permit area to the west.
According to apre-permit site inveritory prepared by the Shavano SCD, the site was mined prior to the
permit. Topsoil was not salvaged from pre-permit mining activities and therefore not available for
reclamation purposes. The existing vegetative cover was weedy and composed of Foxtail barley,
Quakgrass, Wooley Mullen, Cheatgrass, Stinging nettles, Kentucky bluegrass, Narrowleaf Cottonwood
trees and willow shrubs. Recommendations for reclamation from the SCD included grading to 2H:1V and
broadcast seeding of Smooth brome grass, Orchard grass and either Clover or Alfalfa. The approved
reclamation plan indicates grading will ensure slopes no steeperthan 3H:1V, topsoil replacement atthree
to six inch depth, and seeding per SCD recommendations.
No problems or possible violations were observed.
Response to this report should be directed to the Division's office in Durango at 701 Camino del Rio,
Room 325, Durango, CO 81301, to the attention of Wally Erickson, phone 970-247-5469.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Brian Wilson
OPERATOR Montrose County
STREET 161 S.Tawnsend
CITY/STATE/ZIP Montrose, CO 81402
cc: Tony Waldron, DRMS
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WOCD (CH)
^ OTHER
