Since that time one have commenced correcting and/or addressing
the points of concern and recommendations of your report.
We have removed the boulders from the topsoil stockpile per recommendation ,.
No. 1 of your report. Upon your recomendations to Coleen Kelley, Hecla Mining
Canpany Environmental Supervisor, cve requested the advice of the local Soil
Conservation District concerning our topsoil stabilization. P1r. Gus Gomez,
District Conservationist, USDA Soil Conservation Service, Costilla District,
inspected the mine site June 20, 1985. We will consider his recommendation and
observations in our amendment application.
In reference to recomendation No. 2 of your report, we have made a_~angements
with Costilla County for disposal of any non-toxic, non-hazardous trash. This
was addressed in my letter dated June 3, 1985 to Mr. Max Gallegos, Costilla
County Administrator, a copy of which was sent to you.
We are presently omrking on the details of the permit arnrndment application per
recommendations No. 3 and No. 4 of your report. In reviewing our permit ~+re
feel there may be additional concerns that could be considered in the amendment.
We wish to address all areas of concern in one amendment, rather than proceeding
with multiple amiendments. We will not be able to have all this work completed
by June 30, 1985.
Per our telephone conversation of June 20, 1985, we request an extension of
time in which to submit our amendment application. Although we are fortunate
enough to request and receive advice from our parent company, Hecla Mining
Company, we are required to do the detailed work at Colorado Aggregate.
Since we have a very limited staff, cye anticipate it may take up to 120 addi-
tional days to complete our eaork and undergo our internal review prior to
submittal to you. We, therefore, request an extension to have our permit
amendment application submitted by November 1, 1985.
TWS/ska
cc: Robert Oringdulph
Roger Kauffman
Coleen Kelley
Norman Harvey
Eddie Quiller
Si~ncerely,
'~~t~i~~ ~v seer
Production Superintendent
