• (Page 21
MINE ID k OR PROSPECTING ID rX M-81-114
INSPECTION DATE 10-25-99 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine inspection, conducted as part of the Divisions monitoring plan for permitted mine sites in Colorado.
The site has not changed much since the permit conversion in 1996. The operator has finished mining the level that was
being mined in phase 1 at that time, and has begun mining another level approximately 20 feet lower. The new level was
started at the northwest corner of phase 1 and is progressing to the southeast where it will daylight.
There are some new piles of imported earth materials and cut vegetation (sunflowers and brush) that have been dumped
on site. The county will need to provide a notice of importation of inert fill for the earthen material that has been imported.
Rule 3.1.519) specifies the information that must be included in this notice. The county indicated that the vegetation must
have been dumped by tresspassers, when the gate was unlocked. The current piles of vegetation are no problem and can
be buried, burned, etc. However, the County is cautioned to keep a close eye on this problem to ensure that noxious weeds
are not dumped on site.
The sediment control berms are in place and functional as designed.
Some musk thistle is scattered across the site. The county had a gps mapping crew in the pit during the inspection,
mapping the location and type of any weed infestations. The county has indicated that all of their gravel pits are in their
weed control plan schedule. Significant progress toward controlling the noxious weeds on site must be evident within three
years. The county is encouraged to indicate any weed control efforts on the annual reports for each mine site.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to:
Division of Minerals and Geology, 701 Camino Del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, Attn: Steve Shuey, phone
no. 970-247-5062.
I & E Contact Address cc: Tom Gillis, DMG
^ CE
NAME
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
Nan Bedau
La Plata County
26616 U.S. Hwv 160 South
Durango.
