III. COMMENTS • COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on tho inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of CDMG. This former
underground mine is reclaimed. Remaining buildings and structures are approved to remain
as permanent structures. Mr. luppa, the landowner, was present during the initial portion of
the inspection. Ground conditions were dry and the weather was warm and seasonable.
Reveoetation
Cattle were not observed on the reclaimed area but were observed in a pasture area near
the frontage road to the west of the site. Interseeding of the refuse slope ditch outslopes has
been completed with a cover crop. The permanent seed mix will be planted this fall season
into this cover crop. Gently sloping areas and north-facing slopes show excellent signs of
revegetation recovering after last years record drought. Grasses appear numerous and
include western wheatgrass and intermediate wheatgrass along with the forb cicer milkvetch.
Cool season grasses are beginning to set seed heads.
• e
~'~ ~{ J. ter..: x'Y~R ~,~. ~Y,
1.~ • j~
~. • w~~
Wheat grasses and cicer milkvetch
t3 -
3 ~~
~_ ~ ~~
~ 1~ ~~ ~ -
7l~
A small infestation of whitetop was noted south of the shop building near the edge of the
reclaimed area. The operator should take the necessary steps to eradicate this aggressive
noxious weed before it becomes a more difficult problem.
