(Page 3) MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-88-112 INSPECTION DATE 11-22-93 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ACS Materials testing data was examined as part of this inspection. 51 density testa of dam raise materials had been performed to date using a nuclear in-situ density testing apparatus. Glen Guyer stated that he generally did one density teat for each 200 linear feet across the dam. crest; the testa are done at varying depths within each lift. Three proctor testa had been conducted on dam raise material, all three running in the neighborhood of 125 pcf maximum dry density. Gradation testing of the screened liner cover material indicates that it is running approximately 12 percent fines (material passing a #200 sieve) with some samples running up to 20 percent fines. East mine pit reclamation was observed from a vantage point on a hill south of the Rito Seco. The east pit was back-filled with west pit overburden. Grading and cont~~uring of the back- fill has resulted in slopes that blend with the surrounding hills. StabLlizing grasses are well established on the reclaimed elopes; establishment of the native species included in the seed mix will take more time, probably several growing seasons. Sampling of the groundwater monitoring wells at the San Luie Project was discussed with Alana Scott, Environmental Engineer at the mine. The decontamination procedure for the sampling equipment includes transporting the sampling equipment back to a fresh water tap between sampling episodes and running soapy water through the pump and tubing, as well as a fresh water rinse of all sampling equipment. The Division should audit the well sampling and de- con procedures at some future date when an inspection can be coordinated with a sampling event.
