- N ~
full force of the regulations too beaz on a few operators it deemed out of compliance. It seems
only fair to ask Mesa County to abide by the same rules. If the specific schedule for the OM Pit
is not submitted and followed as requested, be forewarned that this Office has every intention of
bringing the matter to the Board's attention. The fines can be up to $1000.00 (dollars) per day of
non-compliance. Concurrently, this Office will be monitoring reclamation efforts at all the above
mentioned sites to assure than revegetation and final closure can be achieved in as short a time as
possible. It is in the best interest of Mesa County and this Office to close the files on all these
sites.
This Office does not want to have an unpleasant relationship with Mesa County. In fact, this
Office will offer its assistance: in any way to help the County achieve closure of these sites. The
time has come however for die County to live up to its obligations under these various permits
and finish what.is required to close them.
If you have any questions or :if I can be of further assistance, please contact me at the Division of
Minerals and Geology, Grancl Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3'~ Street, Suite 301, Grand Junction,
Colorado 81501. My telephone no. is 970.241.1117 and the fax number is 970.241.1516.
Sincerely,
i
~• ~~
G. Russell Means
Environmental Protection Specialist
