III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of
observations made during the inspection. Comments also describe any
enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or evidence
supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Sunlight Mine conducted by Erica Crosby
of DMG. The mine is a bond forfeiture site, therefore, no company
representative was present during the inspection. Weather conditions on
site were clear and warm. Ground conditions were damp.
Roads A small berm has been place at the entrance of the road leading to the
upper portal area. This berm should eliminate any vehicles on the reclaimed
area. The lower road was cleared of vegetation.
Hydrologic Balance The upland diversion ditch appeared to be in good
repair. The berm at the lower fan area was intact. No mine water discharge
was noted from the fan portal.
Backfilling & Grading The backfilled portals are intact and show no signs
of failure.
Processing Waste The crib wall showed no signs of major instability. Some
of the timbers appear weak.
Revegetation Very little vegetation was noted on site due to lack of
topsoil. The mine site is dominated by coal fines and debris.
