(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1977-300
INSPECTION DATE: Au¢ust 21.2001
OBSERVATIONS

INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: AIW
This inspection conducted by Tony Waldron and AI Amundson of DMG at the request of the operator. The mine is located
approximately 7 miles northwest of Golden, Colorado. The facilities are situated in a deeply dissected ~:anyon/valley of
Ralston Creek. The primary ore-body is generally located due south of the facilities location and was accessed by a series of
horizontal drifts that lead to vertical shafts which decend down into the mine. This inspection was conducted to discuss and
review the ongoing reclamation o(the ore sorting facility and office complex.
The office has been abandoned and the concrete structure was being demolished. The ore sorting facility has already been
demolished and the only thing of substance that remains is the foundation. The foundation is a substantial structure with a
vertical wall that is approximately 30 feet high by 200 feet long sitting on a large concrete footer running along the bottom of
the wall. The operator would like to leave this structure in place and backfill up against the wall at 3H:1V to a final elevation
of approximately 2 feet of cover over the top of the wall. The wall is presently serving as a buttress for 'ill between the wall
and the natural slope which is approximately 75-100 feet west of the wall. In effect, this wall would basically act as a retaining
wall that would buried in the backfill. Closer examination of the wall and pad did not reveal excess writer seeping from
underneath or behind the wall or the footer. Initial review of this proposal appeared acceptable, however, the operator will be
submitting a technical revision to our office firming up the details of the proposed changes to the original reclamation plan.
A second item inspected was the expansion of the west waste dump which was recently approved under a separate TR. This
expansion will extend the pile to the south towards the rest of the facilities area. One concern that was identified with respect
to this expansion was that the expanded area crossed a small drainage and the contributing watershed above the pile would
drain onto and across the pile once the pile is completed. No allowance was made for containing or diverting this drainage
and if allowed to run across and off of the face of the pile it could lead to erosive down-cutting on the Mile. The operator
indicated that they would look into this situation and address it with the revision that will be submitted to our office for the
revised backfill plan.
This concluded the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Timothv W.
