(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-2002-046
INSPECTION DATE 4129102
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal pre-operational review by the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
of new permits. The D Road Gravel Pit site is located in southwestern Grand Junction at D Road and 29 ~fz Road. The
proposed site is 104 acres of which 83.8 acres will be disturbed. The inspector was accompanied by Ephemeral Resources
Representative; Tom Logue.
The Public Notice was posted as required on a power pole along D Road. Boundary Markers have not yet been formally
established, but it was noted that fence lines and survey pins delineated the rough boundaries. Permanent markers should
be installed prior to disturbance and it is highly recommended that phased areas of the operation be marked as well.
A discussion of the permanent man made structures made it clear that Ephemeral owns all structures wfthin the permitted area
with the exception of utility right-of ways. Farm houses and support buildings are to be removed and not replaced. The sewer
lines have a 45 foot set back and engineering to prevent damage. The lone powerlines to the farm house will be relocated
by Public Service when necessary.
The area to be used as a wetlands bank is currently an old pre-law pit with 3H:1 V slopes. Some trash and old tires were noted
in the area that. are noted as pre-permit. Photo documentation is included with this report. Much of this area is surrounded
by wetlands projects by the Corp of Engineers and U.S. Wildlife Service. An infestation of knapweed was noted in areas
outside of the proposed permit boundary. The operator is advised to be vigilant and implement the Weed Control Plan at the
earliest sign of invasion. It also may be in Ephemeral's best interest to contact the Mesa County Weed Control Board for action
on areas bordering the proposed site. When reclamation is finished this area will be have a positive impact on the area.
Good topsoil propagated by the healthy alfalfa crop should help in reclamation efforts so long as it is protected and stored
correctly.
No other issues were noted or observed.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address cc:
^ CE
NAME Tom Locue ^ BL
OPERATOR Ephemeral Resources.
