• (Page 2) •
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1996-031
INSPECTION DATE 1-9-2002 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection and an inspection to evaluate current site conditions for use in updating the
reclamation cost estimate for the site.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3.1.12.
No significant infestations of noxious or other problematic weeds were noted on site during this inspection. Russian thistfe is
being blown into pockets of the site and is starting to become established. The operator is encouraged to perform weed control
measures so the Russian thistle is less of a problem when reclamation begins. After topsoil is replaced on regraded areas,
weed control will be necessary to knock back the Russian thistle and give the desired vegetation a better chance for successful
establishment.
No significant erosional features were noted on the affected areas of the site. Drainage from the affected areas reports to the
excavated pit where it evaporates or infiltrates.
No equipment or processing facilities are located on the site at this time as the site has not been operated in a while. The
operator is scheduled to bring equipment to this site in the next month to begin reclamation of the highwalls. The site is nearly
mined out, but has several small piles of product remaining from which material has occasionally been removed during the
past few years.
Topsoil Piles are lacking stabilizing vegetative cover. After regrading and topsoil placement on the highwalls, seeding of the
remaining topsoil piles will need to take place. Seeding of both the regraded highwall slopes and the remaining topsoil
stockpiles should take place as early in the spring as weather and ground conditions allow.
In an effort to ensure the financial warranty remains adequate to reclaim this site per the requirements of the approved
reclamation plan, DMG has updated the reclamation cost estimate (copy enclosed). Clearly, the site is currently under-bonded.
Therefore, pursuant to Section 3432.5-117(4) of the Colorado Land Reclamation Act, adequate financial warranty must
be submitted to DMG within 60 days of the mailing date of this report. Please review the enclosed figures as soon as
possible and contact our office if any calculation errors are noted.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Steve Shuey at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3f0 Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone number 970-243.6368.
I & E Contact Address cc:
NAME
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WOCD ICH)
^ OTHER
