~, • (Page 2)
i
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-83-060
INSPECTION DATE_NOVember 25, 1997 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS TAS
OBSERVATIONS
1. A site inspection was made of the Thornburg Pit located 1.5 miles northeast of Bennett.
Present during the inspection was Mr. Don Opheim of Centennial Materials, Inc.
2. The Thornburg Pit is currently active. The extent of disturbance is unknown, although
all disturbance was determined to be within the 106.7 acre permit boundary. The site
entrance sign and affected land boundary markers were not present, as required by Rule
3.1.12. Mr. Opheim was instructed to mark the "affected land boundary" and to post an
entrance sign. Following completion of these requirements the Division will re-inspect the
site to determine the extent of current disturbance in relation to the affected land
boundary. The Division considers the absence of an entrance sign and affected land boundary
markers to be a problem. Please see page 3 for corrective actions.
3. The operator has posted a financial warranty of $10,700 in the. form of a credit rating
test and certification of net worth. It appears that this amount of financial warranty
corresponds with 21.4 acres of affected land. The operator has specified in the reclamation
plan for the Thornburg Pit that mining disturbance will be reclaimed to cropland, with
approximately 65.6 acres seeded with alfalfa and 21.0 acres seeded with native rangeland
grasses.
4. The operator has been diligent in salvaging available topsoil for reclamation use. There
is a large topsoil stockpile north of the active pit.
I & E Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Donald L. Opheim ^ BL
OPERATOR Centennial Materials.
