III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection of the Bowie No. 2 Mine conducted by Sandy Brown from DMG. Harry
Ranney took the Aerial photos on May 18, 2006. Weather was clear and the ground was dry. There
appears to be minimal activity on site. Bowie reclaimed the West Portal from approximately
September 2000 through October 2002. During that time, most of the buildings at the.East Mine were
dismantled and removed. Since then, there has been little or no reclamation activity. In a letter dated
April 3, 2006, as part of the midterm review response to TR-37, the Division requested that Bowie
Resources LLC continue the reclamation of this site starting this year. There has been no progress
toward final reclamation or mining activity in several years.
A white van, a white sedan and a white pick-up truck and trailer are parked adjacent to a concrete pad
on one of the lower benches. No activity is apparent.
At the West Mine, just uphill from the water tank, there appears to a drill pad or other small
disturbance where erosion control matting has recently been applied. The rest of the west mine
reclaimed area appears to be in good condition and no excessive erosion was noted. Grasses are
greening up. It appears that the water tank is in the process of being dismantled, a couple of large
pieces of sheet metal have been removed from the upper part of the tank and are sitting on the adjacent
ground.
There is no apparent activity at the loadout. It looks like supplies and equipment parts are stored there.
