Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: ti1-799'i.059
INSPECTION DATE: OS/»rnd INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: ~1Ir)L
OBSERVATIONS
This was afollow-up monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG. The site foreman was on site
but not present during the inspection. The site is located approximately 3 miles west of Holly, Colorado and in
between U.S. Hwy 50 and the Arkansas River. The site is mined by floating suction dredge method with the
waste sand being backfilled behind the active mining.
A concern that was identified during the most recent inspection October 2003) was failure to properly protect
topsoil stockpiles that remain in place for more than one year. The most recent amendment required that all
topsoil that is salvaged and stockpiled be immediately broadcast seeded with equal amounts of western
wheat grass, smooth brome grass and intermediate wheat grass at 19 pounds per acre. This had not been
occurring or any attempts to do so had failed as the topsoil stockpiles observed on site contained a
monoculture of kochia weed over the entire surface area of the piles. This was cited as a problem along with
suggested abatements of burning or plowing the kochia followed by seeding with the approved stockpile seed
mix.
The kochia weeds on the stockpiles were burned this spring and it was evident that the stockpiles had also
been seeded. However, as this appears to have been recently completed, none of the grass had started to
germinate as of this inspection. Therefore, the problem that was cited during the October, 2003 inspection is
considered to have been properly abated, however, the site should continue to be monitored for
establishment and/or additional treatment.
This concluded the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: James Kirkland
OPERATOR: Midwestern Farms Resources
STREET: P n_ RoY SAO
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Rya. c~ ain~9
cc: T CE
I' BL
I' FS
t HW
I' HMWMD (CH)
I' SE
T WQCD (CH)
I' OTHER
