(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: _-m-ta5n-ron
INSPECTION DATE: neremher tR, 7nnt
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: AI p
This inspection was conducted in compliance with the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board directive that all
mines within the state be inspected once every four years. At the beginning and end of the inspection, this inspector
met with Mr. John Cottam, Mine Manager, and during the inspection was accompanied by Mr. Temple IClute.
The mine is located in nortwestem Douglas County inclose proximity to both residential and light industrial areas,
and is bounded on the east by the Highline Canal. The mine is well signed and it is apparent that they are taking
steps to mitigate the effects of truck traffic by good road maintenance, speed limits for the tracks and restriction on
the use of compression-release braking.
An inspection of the permit boundaries was conducted revealing good boundary control and a small herd of mule
deer which occupy undisturbed grassland on the west side of the property. Some concurrent reclamation grading
and topsoiling has been performed on the northeast portion of the property adjacent to the Highline Canal. The
operator should plan to contact the NRCS (National Resources Conservation Service, Brighton Field Office, USDA
Field Center, 57 West Bromley Lane, Brighton, Colorado, 80601) with questions regarding when and how to plant
the desired seed mixture. I am enclosing a copy of your amendment from July 17, 1981 and from February 20, 1986
for your reference.
A crushing and screening plant was being installed in the pit at the time of this inspection, and piles of recycled
asphalt and concrete were on hand for processing. The sides of the pi[ were mostly graded between approximately
2.5: I and 3: I by visual observation.
Erosion of the slopes does not appear to be a problem, and water does not exit the pit.
The fuel storage is well constructed with a concrete secondary containment facility.
No problems were noted at the time of the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Mr. John Cottam
OPERATOR: ARS Sand and Gravel
STREET: 5505 W.
