{Page 2}
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1983-159
INSPECTION DATE: 5-19-04 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology. The Gleason Pit is located on a mesa edge south of Redvale Colorado. The site is a 112c
permitted site. This inspection is part of a request for a Succession of Operators from the current operators of Tom
and Regina Farmer to S & S Aggregates. Mr. Rick Sutherland, representative for S&S accompanied the inspector
on the inspection.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers aze in place and incompliance with Rule 3.1.12.
The sign is a little worse for weaz, however, the new operators will be required to post a new sign that will address
this issue. Pit boundaries are day-lighted edges on the south and west. T-posts and other features noted on current
maps make current boundaries easily identifiable.
The pit was in full operation at the time of the inspection. A loader was excavating materials from abench along the
eastern edge of the current disturbance. The disturbed area has been stripped of topsoil, which is stockpiled in the
northwest comer of the pit edge. The raw materials at this time are being mined at a 2:1 slope or slightly steeper.
Crushing and stockpiling operations were observed on the pit floor. Total estimated disturbance at this time is
azound 7 to 8 acres. The permit allows for up to 10 acres of maximum disturbance.(Photos 1,2,3,4,8,9)
At the time of this inspection, wind gusts were estimated to be 20 to 25 miles per hour and a steady wind of 10 to 15
mph was noted. The stockpile operation was observed to have sufficient dust controls going that fugitive dust was
not a problem. The excavation area was also wet down to help cut dust from digging operations. No dust was
observed leaving the pit azea from these activities.
A triangle section of the southern pit edge has initial reclamation in progress. The area is approximately 2 acres in
overall area. At this time, overburden has been used to establish a gentle slope from the edge back into the pit.
Topsoil piles were observed staged for spreading in this azea. A few spots that were not disturbed during mining
have been left intact to help augment revegetation success by the new operator. (Photo 7)
A small infestation of white-top and knapweed was noted along the eastern edge of the pit area. This issue is not
being considered a problem at this time. When the new operator submits a Technical Revision to change the
maximum allowable disturbance, a weed control plan will be required at that time also. In the interim, the operator
is strongly advised to spray the pit while the problem is small.
No erosion, sedimentation, or stormwater issues were noted at this time. Mesa slopes below the mine edge did not
show any signs of disturbance related to mining activities. (Photos 5,6)
The new operator has expressed an interest in changing the maximum allowable disturbance from 10 acres to
possible 15. This can be done through a Technical Revision to the Mining Plan. The current Financial Warranty of
$18,573.00 appears to be adequate at this time based on the amount ofacreage disturbed and in reclamation. Amore
thorough re-calculation will be done with the submission of a TR or at a later date.
No problems noted at this time.
