Loye, Reclamation Specialist
Subject: Inspection Reports
Cortez Pit, 76-59 /
Dolores River Pit, 77-2
Dear Mr. Loye:
Thank you for the inspection report of September 3, 1981, for
Cortez, Dolores, Gai, Hamilton, and Butler Pits.
Regarding the Cortez Pit, pit faces are most economically
shot vertically. This will continue to be our method of
operation until the final permanent slope face is reached.
{Ve are using the Cortez Pit on a continual basis at the
present and do not foresee reclamation shaping in tl~e near
future.
I must apologize for the tardy Annual Report. Our summer
student-employee was handling annual reports and he was
evidently unaware of the Cortez Pit. That report and fee
will be forthcoming under separate cover.
To date we have not expanded the original limits of the pit
reported in Mr. C. R. Nofsinger's Mining plan. The skimpy
rocky soils salvaged from the original pit stripping is still
stockpiled at the north rim of the pit as reported by PAr.
Nofsinger (please refer to the enclosed photos). Soils
for reclamation will be the residual crusher fines made up
of fine sands and silt from the rapidly deterioriating
Dakota Sandstone gravels.
pN fOUAL OPPO BTUNITY EMPLOY FII"
la:. 111C _ Vvl ..c4 y[uuiir, +.. u~y~ ~•-,
Encl : S ~~~OX ~6'~g~f L,~ COUNTY ROAD G.
