(Page 21
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1984-155
INSPECTION DATE 9/5/02 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS WHE
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of DMG's routine monitoring plan for permitted operations.
Mr. Tim Huskey was contacted prior to the inspection but could not participate due to previously
scheduled appointments. The Bartley Gravel Pit is approved for 77.3 acres affected area. Mine
status is active.
Mine identification sign and permit boundary markers were posted. Mine entrance road was well
maintained. Mining and reclamation activities appeared limited to approved areas. No mining
equipment was on site during the inspection.
Active mining and processing operations appeared limited to the western 113 of the permit area.
Reclamation appeared completed for the eastern 1(3 of the permit area, east of the buried pipeline.
Middle 1 /3 of the permit area contained areas where reclamation appeared to be in various stages
of completion. The operator had installed several rock check dams in an ephemeral drainage
channel located within the middle 1 /3 portion of the permit area. Clay borrow pit, located in the
north central portion of the permit area, appeared intact but not a location of recent mining
activity. Evidence of operator employing weed control efforts were observed in all portions of the
permit area.
As noted above, reclamation appeared to have been completed for eastern portions of the permit
area. Reclamation backfilting and grading had resulted in gently rolling topography which blended
exceptionally well with surrounding undisturbed topography. Reclaimed areas appeared stable,
evidence of Settling, slumping or excessive erosion were not observed. Vegetative cover for the
reclaimed eastern portions of the permit area was well established, diverse and at least equal in
extent of cover to the surrounding natural vegetative cover. Reclamation appears to have been
completed for the eastern portions of the permit area, east of the buried pipeline, in accordance
with conditions of the approved reclamation plan, Act and Rules. However, DMG cannot release
the area from the permit until the operator submits a release request for the reclaimed portions in
accordance with the requirements of Rule 4.16.
No problems or possible violations were observed.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to the Division of Minerals and Geology, 701
Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, Attn: Wally Erickson, phone no. 970-247-
5469.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Tim Huskev
OPERATOR Dolores Countv
STREET P.O.
