(Page 2)
MINE ID# OR PROSPECTING ID# M-1984-168 INSPECTION DATE 5/27/04 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRS
This was an inspection of the Williams Fork Pit, conducted by Gregg Squire of the Division of
Minerals and Geology. Forrest Luke and Frank Self, representing Williams Fork Mining, were
also present. The pit is located about five miles south of Craig, Colorado, west of Colorado
State Highway 13, in Big Bottom.
The north end of the site, Phases 1-3 have been mined out and reclaimed as a large pond. The
majority of this area has been regraded, topsoiled and well revegetated. Some of the plants
observed included western and intermediate wheatgrass, great basin wild rye and willow and
cottonwood trees. It was observed that some areas of the east shoreline were stable and
supported some vegetation, but were steeper than the required 3H:1V slopes and would need to
be regraded. Numerous Canada geese, various species of ducks, and shorebirds were observed
utilizing this pond.
Active mining is currently taking place in areas 5 and 6. The pit was closed during the
winter, a contract miner was working in the pit at the time of the inspection and had almost
finished dewatering the pit by pumping the water into the reclaimed pond in areas 1-3.
Overburden was being stripped, once enough area is exposed, the gravel will be mined,
crushed, screened and stockpiled for use for the year.
The main topsoil stockpile is located on the southeast side of the reclaimed pond. This
stockpile has been seeded and appears to be stable.
The permit signs and markers are in place, the only problem noted during the inspection was
the presence of a few plants of white top on the site. The operator indicated that they had
a spray crew that would take care of these plants in the next week or so.
I & $ Contact Address
NAME Mr. Forrest Luke
OPERATOR Williams Fork Mining Company
STREET P.O.
