III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during [he <br />inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or evidence <br />supporting the enforcement action. <br />This was a complete inspection of the Chimney Rock Mine for [he month of October, 1999 <br />RECORDS: Records were inspected and found to be satisfactory. New books with all appropriate files and <br />documents were available for inspection. See page 5 of this report for further details. <br />HYDROLOGIC BALANCE: All ponds have been removed and final drainages have been established. No signs <br />of any significant erosion was observed, however, recent storms did cause some rills and gullies to form a[ the <br />uppermost portion of the mine. These will need monitoring to insure that they do not worsen. Signs of repair work <br />were evident at the lower part of the Barren Ridge area. <br />GENERAL MINE COMPLIANCE: The site's thistles wete sprayed eazlier this fall and most of the thistles wete <br />dead or dying. <br />RECLAMATION SUCCESS: The vegetation throughout the site is doing well. The alfalfa/grass cropland was <br />cut and the bales stacked on site. It appears that [he hay was rained on once or twice before being baled. <br />
