<br />• (Page 21 <br />MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # <br />INSPECTION DATE 10/23/96 <br />M~5-031 <br />OBSERVATIONS <br /> <br />INSPECTOR'S INITIALS WHE <br />This complete inspection was conducted by Wally Erickson, from the DMG field office in Durango, 484 <br />Turner Drive, Building F, Suite 101 , Durango, CO 81301 , phone (970) 247-5193, as part of the review <br />process of application for conversion to Regular 112 Operation. The Mancos Gravel Pit is located <br />approximately 1 .5 miles NE of Mancos, on the west side of CR 42, in portions of the W 1 /2 of the SW 1 /4 <br />of Section 22, T36N, R1 3W, NMPM, at 7440' elevation. The operation was active during the time of this <br />inspection. Mr. Tim McComb, Supervisor of Montezuma County Road & Bridge Department, accompanied <br />the DMG inspector during the inspection. <br />The Mancos Gravel Pit permit was originally issued on 5/31 /85, as a county 1 10 operation for 9.9 acres <br />affected area. On 10/15/96, the operator submitted an incomplete conversion application to DMG Denver <br />office. Copy of the conversion application (CN-011 was submitted to DMG Durango office on 10/11/96. <br />DMG Durango staff commenced technical review of the application upon receipt of CN-01 . <br />SIGNS & MARKERS -Mine identification sign was erect at the mine entrance and displayed the necessary <br />information. Affected area was delineated by markers. Notice, required by Rule 1 .6.21111b), was posted. <br />Area to be affected upon approval of CN-01 was delineated by markers. <br />MINE PLAN COMPLIANCE -Operations have advanced to west boundary of 1 10 permit area. Topsoil was <br />stockpiled along the west and south sides of the active pit, overburden stockpile was located along north <br />side of active pit. Topsoil has recently been salvaged and added to stockpile, therefore topsoil stockpile <br />lacked protective vegetative cover. Evidence of erosion, weed infestation, or other topsoil degradation was <br />not observed. Operator stated that topsoil stockpiles which would remain in place for periods of time <br />exceeding 1 year would be seeded to establish protective vegetative cover. 2 dozers, 2 loaders and portable <br />crusher and conveyor equipment were located on site. <br />HYDROLOGIC BALANCE -Drainage from the irrigated uplands is conveyed through the affected area by <br />ditches and culvert. Evidence of excessive erosion/sedimentation of the affected area and to the surrounding <br />areas were not observed.
