Pa e 2
MINE ID # OR M-1983-102 INSPECTION DATE: 08/14/2008 INSPECTOR'S RMw
PROSPECTING fD #: INITIALS:
This inspection was conducted as part of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) monitoring
program. Present at the inspection were Richard Wenzel of the Division and Larry Thompson and Bud Tillotson of
Thompson Properties.
A sign was posted at the entrance to the site; however, the permit boundaries were not clearly marked. This is
noted as a problem on page three of this report.
Topsoil was stockpiled in the southwest comer of the site and is well vegetated. No mining is taking place in this
portion of the site. Mining and processing is occurring in the northeast comer of the permit area with highwalls
along the southwest and east mining limits. The highwalls along the southwest mining limit appear to be
approximately thirty feet in height. The highwalls along the east mining limit appear to be about forty to fifty feet in
height. Along the northwest perimeter of mining where mining will daylight, the operator has left a berm
approximately six feet in height to contain any storm water runoff. A portion of the mining slope in the northeast
comer of the pit has been graded to approximately 3H:1 V and revegetated with a moderate amount of vegetation
established. The operator has discontinued his gravel washing operation and the area where the settling pond was
located has dried up. This area is well vegetated but the operator indicated that he intends to use the wash fines as
a growth medium for reclamation. The operator also indicated that he is considering expanding his gravel mining
operation to the east.
Overall, the pit is neat and well maintained. No other problems were identified during this inspection,
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Richard Wenzel at the Division of Reclamation, Mining
and Safety, Denver Office, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, Colorado 80203, phone number 303-866-
4935.
Enforcement and Inspection Contact Address
NAME: Mr. Larry Thompson
OPERATOR: Thompson Properties
STREET: P.
