Bowie No. 2 Mine, p>?.4
We next inspected both the pond k and then pond j areas, and associated access roads and
construction disturbance. Again, these areas are well armored and stable. Some minor areas need
seeding /mulching from recently completed activity (house demolition, etc.) and final grading.
The large topsoil stockpile at the train loadout area also needs to be seeded /mulched ASAP.
Excavated slopes for the east end of the railroad track installation are very steep and should also
be seeded /mulched /stabilized; and surface water runoff areas armored appropriately where
necessary. The primary runoff ditches are concrete, and undisturbed area runoff diversions
appear to be located where necessary. These undisturbed area diversions should be closely
monitored during runoff events to determine effectiveness and appropriate flow gradients. This
concluded the field inspection. We returned to the office and discussed the permit renewal
stipulations noted above. Mr. Dudash reviewed minor maintenance items with Mr. Bear. The
permittee should be commended for completion of the railroad loadout facility without anV
notable off site impacts.
Questions concerning this inspection report should be addressed to Henry Austin at
haustin@osmre.eov or to (303) 844-1400 x1466.
