A pre-operation inspection was made to investigate the concerns noted in recent <br />correspondance submitted by Chris Kloster, Habitat Biologist with the Colorado Division of <br />Wildlife. <br />2. Concerns noted by Mr. Kloster include choice of land use for reclamation, contemporaneous <br />reclamation, and replacement of woody vegetation. <br />3. The existing land use is confirmed as rangeland. The choice of post-mining land use is <br />also rangeland. This choice appears to be both appropriate and feasible. <br />4. Woody vegetation present consists of approximately 50 juniper shrubs in the southeast <br />portion of the 1970 acre permit area. There are several hundred juniper shrubs in the <br />surrounding area which will not be mined. The Division does not consider the juniper shrubs <br />to be dominant and vital component of the rangeland vegetation present at the site. Unless <br />the Division of Wildlife has a specific concern regarding critical wildlife habitat or <br />threatened or endangered species that would be adversely affected by removal of the 50 <br />shrubs, the Division does not feel it to be appropriate to require the operator to replace <br />the shrubs during reclamation. <br />5. Other vegetation present includes typical shortgrass prairie grasses and forbs, <br />sagebrush, yucca, and "walking stick" cactus. <br />6.
