This inspection was conducted as part of the monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology for active uranium mine projects. Currently, due to the rapid nature of development at these sites, the
DMG is doing monthly monitoring inspections.
The Mineral Joe Claims are part of the overall complex that makes up the JD-6 Mining Area. The claims aze kept
under permit for 2 reasons. The Duggan Adit is used for access to the JD-6 ore body. The other alit on the Mineral
Joe has not been reclaimed provides a required emergency exit for the active JD-6 Mine. The waste piles are to be
used once space underground is depleted so the permit is kept in an active state.
Some ore is being brought to the surface load-out area. The general azea slopes back towards the load out and berms
around the area control run off. Drainage appears to flow towazds the north from here across the road and into a
retention pond across from the haul road. Sedimentation controls and stormwater controls will need to be instituted
once any materials are again placed on the dumps.
Fuel tanks on site are noted as being in secondary containment structures constructed of earthen berms with aplastic
liner. The Division is requesting that a Technical Revision to this permit be done to mirror request atthe JD-8 and 9
to address spill control, prevention and storage of petroleum and other hazardous materials on site. Due to
congestion in the area from other visitors and mining equipment the inspectors did not get out of the vehicle in the
portal /office area. The storage and handling of petroleum products although no direct problem was found at this
site will be an issue of concern and monitored.
Division files note that most of the uranium mines have older maps associated with them. The Division is
requesting that all operators please send the most current map that clearly depicts current mine permit boundaries
and mining features.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means ai the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address cc:
^ CE
NAME; Glen Williams ^ BL
OPERATOR: Cotter Corporation p FS
STREET: P.O.
