At the beginning of the
inspection we met with Mr. Rick Paraday. Mr. Greg Francis, and Mr. B.l. Fuller who explained the general layout of the mine. They also
showed these inspectors a model of the planned reclamation of the north area of the pit. This area is a pre-law disturbance, but is being
reclaimed in conjunction with a concerned citizen l~roup. The planned reclamation will be accomplished at a shallower slope than currently
exists and will contain some revegetated backtill and some rock outcrops of the Pikes Peak Granite that are stained to appear naturally
weathered.
Mr.. Greg Francis, and Mr. B.J. Fuller accompanied these inspectors on their inspection of the operation. The mining operation is well
marked with a sign at the entrance to the operation and the limits of the mine are apparent.
Our inspection began at the top o(lhe vegetated highwall on the south end of the property. This portion o(the mine is post permit, and
has had the benches buckfilled with fine material, and they have been topsoiled and revegetated. Trees have been planted as part of the
revegetation process. The overall appearance of the revegetated portion of the mine is excellent. The plan for the nosh area should yield
an even more natural looking combination of slopes and cliffs.
We examined the active mine area from above observing the borehole spacing and sequence of mining. The mining sequence consists of
removing the center of a particul,~r bench, then slabbing the remainder of the bench into the center. This enables the operator to blast the
final highwall without much overbreak. A shot was being loaded al the time of inspection. The operation appeared to be well planned and
well executed.
Outside the northern portion of the permit area a minor infestation of knapweed was noted. The operator indicated that they were aware
of the infestation, and indicated that the infestation would he treated in cooperation with the citizen group mentioned above.
No water was noted in the pit at the time of inspection and erosion control appeared adequate. Road maintenance and grade control appear
to be good.
No problems were noted at the time of this inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Mr. Greo Francis
OPERATOR: Castle Concrete Company
STREET: PO Box 2379
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Colorarln . rin CO R09nt
cc: ^ Mr. Jim Stevens
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
