(Page 2) • •
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-96-079
INSPECTION DATE 06/28/00 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was a follow-up inspection of the Barnard Quarry conducted by Erica Crosby of the
Division of Minerals and Geology. Chester Barnard of Barnard Quarries was present during the
inspection.
The reason for the inspection was to verify completion of the corrective actions noted in the
June 28, 2000 inspection report. The Division inspected the site due to a citizen complaint
letter sent by Don and Diane Johnson on June 16, 2000. The nature of the complaint is that
the employees of the Barnard Quarry have been throwing rock rubble over the edge for several
months. They believe that the neighbors to the north are in direct harm of a boulder being
kicked free and smashing into their homes.
Based on the mining and reclamation plan maps, it was clear that the rubble extends outside
the permit area approximately 25 to 30 feet down the slope. The Division required the new
rock to be removed and brought back onto the permit area. In addition, the operator was
required to install a temporary structure (either one or a combination of berm, fence or
signs, etc...) to ensure that this activity is prevented.
The operator has started to remove the new rock that was pushed outside the permit area.
According to Mr. Barnard 4 to 6 truckloads of rock remain that will be removed. A 3-foot
high chain link fence was installed along the top ledge of the pit. Numerous signs were
posted stating not to throw rock over the cliff (in both English and Spanish). Photographs
were taken with the digital camera that will be presented to the Mined Land Reclamation Board
at the July 26, 2000 Board Hearing. Based on this inspection, the operator is in compliance
with the corrective actions noted in the June 28, 2000 inspection report.
I & 8 Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Chester Harnard ^ BL
OPERATOR Barnard Ouarries ^ FS
STREET 245 Evans St, P,O.
