•
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-86-102
INSPECTION DATE _OS/15/98
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RCO
There are two unstable spires of fractured limestone at or beyond the outer margins of the
permit. These are each about 20 feet taller than the elevation of the operating bench, and
are narrow enough to possibly crumble onto the bench or downhill toward the highway. These
spires presently should be considered hazards to be removed. (The operator stated that MSHA
has declared them hazards to be removed.) It is assumed, since the permit boundary is
defined by the shoulder of the bench slope in most places, that the spires are immediately
outside the permit boundary. Affecting them would not be for the purpose of obtaining
additional product to sell, but to increase the safety and stability of the site and
downhill. The.opexator stated hie desire to knock these down in a safe manner and avoid any
material rolling down the hill. This means that offsite areas will be affected, and the
material will have to be brought onto the permit area. Without accounting for the area where
material may possibly slough, the offsite area to be affected may amount to several hundred
square feet. The volume of material is estimated to be about 500 cubic yards or more.
Affecting areas offsite leither by mining or contributing to their instability may be a
yossible violation. but use of material generated offsite for certain reasons may be allowed.
~~ a o m on a his offi wh n h. d id s o omm.n.- aff ing these knobs. in
order that the groject may be reviewed.
